Letter No. 1
This week I have been working on a few pieces to familiarise myself with the digital painting tools. Over few coffees with some friends, I also received few new commissions, for which I am delighted and grateful.
I've been enjoying Nike Run Club's guided runs, especially those featuring Andy from Headspace. What I’ve learned is something simple - start small and slow; be persistent. This is what it takes to go far.
All the best,
Yu

Paintings
Grünsee
July, 2023 Oil painting on canvas
I collected this colour from the five-lake hiking trail in Zermatt. Despite the gloomy weather and occasional drizzles, the lake appears as green as an emerald.
Plant at Window
July, 2023 Wacom + Photoshop A plant at my little cup.

Current Commissions
Cherry Blossoms🌸
A large painting that would remind a friend of a spring picnic with friends under cherry blossoms.
Geneva in Four Seasons 🌱🌿 🍂 ❄️
A painting split into 4 vertical canvases, each featuring a season in Geneva. This painting is for a friend who comes from a far-away land and who is settling down in Geneva, his “second hometown”. He has generously purchased all painting material I need for this work.
Poster of Geneva
A tentative commission. A digital painting printed on A0 poster paper to decorate a couple’s dining hall. It will also feature some iconic landmarks around Geneva.
Bride by a Window
A tentative commission. A friend attended a wedding and took a lovely picture of the bride sitting by a window, her wedding dress glowing softly, lighting up her features. It would be great to have this scene preserved in watercolour.
Portrait of a young lady
A commission from @Yi ZHANG.
In Progress/What’s Next
Gold-leaves
I experimented with gold-leaves on this painting, and I loved how the golden surface glows under low light environment. However, under strong, direct day light, the background colour would emerge, making this painting appear dirty. I decide to “restore” this painting. After all, there are no “failed” paintings, just abandoned ones.
Newsletter
I am initiating this newsletter project to record and share my creative experience. Since this website is built with Notion and Super, I am searching for a solution that is not too painstaking to send out newsletter from Notion.
Breakfast
Breakfast has played an interesting in role in my life recently. I would like to document the food I consume with quick sketches.
Web-design
I plan to create an online platform where E-Cards could be created and shared with ease, and most importantly, with LOVE.
